Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

Arrival

Staff will be at the entrance to greet students and remind them to wear their masks. All students will have an option for breakfast and then report directly to the classroom.

Bus Riders

  • Students will be released from their buses one bus at a time. 
  • Buses will pull forward and release students when the bus is in front of Door 1.
  • Students will exit the bus in an orderly method, starting with the front seats and progressing to the back seats. 
  • Students will enter Door 1.
  • All students have the option of receiving a breakfast pack.
  • Students report to their classrooms. 

Walkers/Bikers

  • Please fill out our Student Walker/Biker Form with walking/biking student information.

  • Initially, Ms. Hansen will be monitoring the Boone Avenue crossing from 7:15 - 7:35 am. Patrols will begin once the school year begins.

  • There is a bicycle rack located on the Northwest side of the building.

  • Walkers and bikers will enter Door 1 after 7:35.

  • Students will have the option of receiving a breakfast pack.

  • Students report directly to their classrooms.

Family Drop-offs

  • No students will be allowed to enter the building or gather before the bell rings. Students will begin to unload at 7:35 am.

Students will be dropped off at the junction of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Sonnesyn parking lots. Please review the included map.

Pick up drop off map

  • Families are not to use the main Sonnesyn parking lot until all buses have left.

  • Follow all MN Public Safety Rules while on RAS Premises.

  • Pull all the way forward into the drop off zone and do not pass other vehicles.

  • Students unload only in the drop off zone.

  • Students will enter Door 1.

  • Students have the option of receiving a breakfast pack.

  • Students report directly to their classrooms.

Special Education Transportation drop-offs

  • Students will enter at Door 7.

  • Staff will be at the entrance to greet students and support social distancing.

  • Students will have the option of receiving a breakfast pack.

  • Students report directly to their classrooms. 

Dismissal 

Bus Riders

  • Students will be dismissed by their classroom teacher - bus riders will be dismissed at 2:05 pm.

    • At 2:15, any remaining students will be escorted to the cafeteria to wait for late buses.

    • Teachers responsible for bus duty will monitor students in the cafeteria.

Walkers/Bikers

  • Walkers and bikers will be dismissed at 2:02 pm.

  • Walkers and bikers should exit the building and use the existing sidewalks, crosswalks and crossing guards near the school to minimize the likelihood of an injury.

  • Ms. Hansen will be outside monitoring and provide support for students crossing Boone Avenue.

Student Pick-up

If you will pick up your learner(s) on a regular basis, please complete the Student Pick-Up Form.

  1. Park in St. Joe’s parking lot. For the safety of our staff and students, please do not park on the street or in the school parking lot while buses are still loading.
  2. Enter Sonnesyn through door 18.
  3. Walk into the north gym, and find your child. They will be sitting by grade level.
  4. Exit through door 18.
  5. Parent pick-up is from 2:02 pm  - 2:15 pm

  • At 2:15 pm, any remaining student will be brought to the main hallway. Names of students will be reported to the Office EA to contact home.

Bus|Vans

  • STARS students will remain in their classrooms until the arrival of their bus|van is announced on walkie.

  • Staff will escort students to their transportation.
