Important Update: 2026-27 School Assignment Changes for Sonnesyn Elementary School Students

Dear Sonnesyn Elementary School families,

We are writing to share an important update about elementary school assignments for Sonnesyn students for the 2026-27 school year.

Last month, the School Board approved facility and program adjustments as part of the district’s Statutory Operating Debt (SOD) plan, including the closure of Sonnesyn. 

As a result, Sonnesyn students will transition to a new elementary school based on their home address.

• Students who live west of Highway 169 will be assigned to Zachary Lane Elementary School.
• Students who live east of Highway 169 will be assigned to Neill Elementary School.
• Out-of-district students who are open-enrolled into Sonnesyn will be assigned to Neill Elementary School.
• In-district transportation will be provided to students’ assigned boundary school.

We recognize that this is difficult news and that changes affect students, families, and daily routines. Out of respect for our families, we want to share this information well in advance, so you have time to plan and make informed school choice decisions.
